PBFD Testing

Why PBFD

Psittacene Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD) is one of the most common viral diseases seen in parrot families. The virus is also known to infect pigeon family through multiple strains.

Why PBFD Testing?
PBFD infection poses a big challenge to the aviary due to its highly contagious nature. One needs to be sure of their Aviary’s PBFD status from time to time especially when you are inducting new birds into the collection. Ensuring appropriate disinfection procedures from time to time can also reduce the risk of PBFD infection. With PBFD testing you will be able to ensure the necessary follow up plan and roadmap for a PBFD free Aviary.
Samples collection

PBFD testing needs both blood and feather samples to be sent out to Pranidhi laboratory. Please follow aspetic collection procedure to avoid sample contamination.

Feather Collection Procedure

Feather collection for Bird DNA Sexing is the easiest and convenient method for knowing your bird’s gender. Please use the following guidelines for achieving the best results in sample collection.

Blood Collection Procedure

Bird DNA Sexing can be performed using a very small quantity of blood as well. Blood can be collected using a sterile needle by pricking slightly at the region where the toe begins. A small drop of blood oozes out upon pricking that can be absorbed on to a small piece of clean paper. Air dry for 5 minutes and insert in ziplock bag.
