A1A2 Testing

Why A1A2 Testing?
A1A2 testing at Pranidhi utilizes PCR technology to determine whether a cow/bull is A1A1 or A2A2 or A1A2. The test is a useful to dairy farmers to identify their cattle, make purchase decisions and plan their milk production and breeding programs. Testing is now available either through 2 ml blood in EDTA tube or from 10-20 plucked hair follicles in ziplock bag. It is also possible to test a bull with semen sample. Unique smart card certificate provides a more safer record keeping mechanism. Get in touch with us on how you can send samples and always be assured of the result.
What is A1A2 Testing?
Identification of milk protein produced by the cow is now a requirement in cattle farming. Globally markets are branding A1 and A2 milk differently and it is today a customer’s preference to consume A1 or A2 milk. In the Indian setting indigenous breeds of cattle are predominantly A2.

A Samples Collection

Hair Collection Procedure
  • Select 10-20 tail hairs from the switch/brush of the tail.
  • Tie a knot in mid shaft. Wrap the knotted hairs around your finger, and pluck with a rapid, sharp motion. Repeat the above two steps to obtain approximately 10-20 hairs.
  • The hooked or bulbous hair roots plucked from under the skin should be clearly visible.
  • If the samples are contaminated with faeces, trim the distal end beyond the knot (opposite end to the bulbs). Place knotted hairs in an envelope, which should be labelled with the unique identity of the subject from which the sample was collected. It is this identity that will appear on the report.
